I had a couple of sudden revelations about my Rufa Rujab story, the sort of revelations that other people pay me to have about their writing. First, I realised that there is no real tension in the story, no stakes. Second, I realised it is far too linear, and if I am writing a novella rather than a short story it needs one more story line. Finally, third, I realised that there is nothing for the main character to rub against. More generally, I realised that I tend to write a lot of unfinished stories about women bringing about revolutions that are of questionable benefit to anyone.
